benefitting Locks of Love and Arizona Refugee Center
Apr 22, 2007 --
Pure Elements Salon, in partnership with Soroptimist International of Happy Valley hosted a “Global Beauty Day” Sunday, April 22nd, 2007 at Pure Elements Salon (located in the Albertson’s Plaza at 83rd Avenue and Deer Valley in Peoria). This event benefited Locks of Love and the Arizona Refugee Community Center.
A total of 32 people donated at least 10 inches of hair each, for a grand total of over 50 feet of hair. All donated hair will be given to the Locks of Love foundation. Eight hair stylists (Cheryl Howlett, Andrea Flores, AJ Cruz, Samantha Livingstone, Denise Butkivich, Carol Gillmour, Karie Dilley, Gail Perkins) cut hair continually on Sunday. Nail technician Tracy Gerevics treated participants to manicures while they waited for their complimentary hair cuts and styles. Photographer Kate Miller captured before and after photos for scrapbook pages given to participants, supplied by Creative Memories representative Londa Spaulding. Soroptimist International Happy Valley Chapter members helped coordinate the day’s activities. Raffle ticket sales exceed goal by 20%, all proceeds to benefit the Arizona Refugee Center in Glendale, Arizona.
Salon owner Jenny Kauffman said, “Thank you hair donors, your personal sacrifice to help others was incredible! A big thank you to all of the donors, your unselfish acts of kindness and generosity made this a huge success. Dave and Lorie Bonzo, Janet, John and Jeff Miller, JD Campbell Realty, Highway 85 Creative, Super Embroidery… Thank you to Soroptimist of Happy Valley, you helped make this a reality! This was such a great day, I am proud to be surrounded by people who care so much for others and our community.” This event will be hosted semi-annually due to its overwhelming success.
