All donated hair will be given to the Locks of Love foundation. Those interested in participating should have 10 inches or more of hair to donate. Free cut and hairstyling for donors! Hair may be colored or permed, but not bleached or chemically damaged. Locks of Love is a not-for-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children 18 and younger with medical hair loss. These custom-fitted hair prosthetics are provided free of charge or on a sliding scale to children whose families meet the Locks of Love Board of Directors’ guidelines.
The organization, which began operation 1998, has helped over 2,000 children to date. Thousands of bundles of donated hair arrive as a result of the internet and word of mouth as well as publicity Locks of Love receives in newspapers, magazines and on television programs.
The Arizona Refugee Community Center (ARCC) is a registered non-profit 501(c)(3) organization which has been dedicated to helping the refugee community in Arizona since 1993. The ARCC coordinates projects and services to assist all refugees to become fully integrated and self-sufficient in their new communities. The refugee community served is very diverse and includes people from Vietnam, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, Ethiopia, and Cuba.
Programs offered include English classes, employment development, homework assistance for youth, and support for elderly refugees and for victims of torture. The ARCC has assisted many members in the community to gain employment, obtain affordable housing, and have opportunities for youth to gather.
Global Beauty Day sponsorship opportunities are available, including logo placement for event t-shirts. Deadline is April 2nd for participation. Fees are $500 for logo (only six spots are available for logo placements) and $250 for text listing.
